Since childhood, I felt a longing to return "somewhere." Peeping into a kaleidoscope at a friend's house, the colors expanding in my hand were vivid and entrancing. I wondered if the afterlife was as beautiful, and if the kaleidoscope was a magical tool to glimpse that universe.
Growing up and starting a family, I carried that feeling. Then, facing personal health scares, I lost my father to illness. Confronting existence for the first time, those childhood memories resurfaced. I realized that "somewhere" I wished to return to was my original self.
Our time in this world is limited. I want to fully embrace "living" and experience the beauty around me. To capture this vision, I built a kaleidoscope with a crystal ball, attached it to my lens, and sealed the images in acrylic. Looking at these works is like peeping into that kaleidoscope I hope they evoke your own sleeping memories and reveal a brilliant fragment of beauty within you.
